MY SERVICE

“Look closely at the present you are constructing: It should look like the future you are dreaming.”
– Alice Walker

After moving to Nevada County in 1971, I fell in love with Nevada City on my family’s very first drive up Broad Street. The words “it’s magical” came out of my four-year-old mouth. The picturesque little hamlet in the foothills instantly made Nevada City feel like home.
My appreciation for my community and for California continued to deepen after spending many years adventuring around the world through nearly 60 countries as a young adult.
Our nation and California have always allowed me the opportunity to pursue my dreams. But in 2004, I grew increasingly concerned with the direction of our planet. After much personal reflection, I soon realized that if I was going to make the world a better place, I needed to start with my own community.
Below, you will find a partial list of my community work and outreach projects over the last 18 years, all of which were voluntary. I did not receive any payment for these efforts, including my time as a council member and mayor. The only exceptions were stipends I received from several crowdfunding campaigns I launched and managed for community and economic development purposes (noted below).
